How to organize your trip

Happiness is planning a trip to somewhere new. Organizing your trip is one of the daunting tasks but it is also filled with excitement. There are innumerable things to take care of before you leave for your destination and sometimes you forget minute things while organizing your trip. A stress-free experience can only come up with organized planning prior to departure.

So here we are with a step-by-step guide to take that stress away from your planning part:

Decide on the travel budget

Even before starting to plan a trip, work on the budget that you want to fix for your trip. Take a good look at the finances and decide how much you want to spend on your vacation. This decision will dictate the future steps as to where you want to head to and for how long.

Figure your travel style

Before embarking on a journey, decide if you would like to travel solo or with your partner, group of friends or family. This decision will help in shaping your trip. Accordingly, you will decide on the places you want to go, accommodations, and modes of transportation. Keep your budget in mind and decide on the traveling companion. There are different options for places if you want to travel solo, a different set of cities when you want to travel with your family or your partner.

Zero in on a destination

Choosing a destination is immensely important as based on this you will further book logistics. If you have a location in mind, make sure you research the best time to visit that place. If you do not have any specific destination, then you may search for country-wise or season-wise. Then you further narrow down your search by the expenses you can make or have planned to make for the trip.

When to travel

This will be based on two factors-weather and tourist crowd. Figure out if it is a peak season or off-season at the place you want to visit. Avoiding travel in peak season is the best as it saves you on a lot of bucks. Moreover, you will get accommodation easily otherwise it is usually sold out in the peak season.

Decide the duration of the trip

Finalize the number of days that you want to travel. This depends on the mode of transportation and your availability. If you are going on a road trip, then it will take longer to reach your destination. Whereas, if you travel by flight, then it will save you time and you will have more time to spend at your destination.

If a place has more attractions for sightseeing, then you will be needing a longer time to cover your places of interest.

Book flights

Before booking flights, decide if you want to purchase a one-way ticket or a round trip. We recommend booking early for better deals. If you book a few months in advance, then you will get a cheap deal. While booking, try to be flexible about the dates if possible. Compare the prices on different travel portals as airfare is the largest expense of your trip. If you travel in a peak season, then booking early will ensure a seat as most of the time flights will be overbooked. Booking at the last minute will lead to higher prices.

Book a connecting flight if you are not in a hurry to reach your destination. It is cheaper as compared to a non-stop flight. You can narrow down your search through the search filters on the website by choosing the same. Flying mixed carriers will also save you some bucks.

Some countries may have a provision of visa on arrival and for some, you will have to get it arranged prior to flying. Thailand, Bhutan, Cambodia, Maldives, Mauritius, Seychelles, Kenya offer visa on arrival. Depending on your destination and origin, check out for the visa requirements.

Make copies of important travel documents. If you lose the document, then at least you have a copy to prove your identity wherever required. So we advise that you keep the document in one bag and keep the photocopy in another bag. Sometimes you also need a copy of your passport, driver’s license, or another form of identification. We suggest you save them online and print multiple copies and keep them in separate bags. Digital copies are the best way of saving yourself from any trouble.

Book accommodation

We recommend booking accommodation ahead of time to avoid any hassles at the time you reach your destination. This will help you to avoid getting booked up. Otherwise, you can walk into hotels once you arrive in the city.

You can book accommodation depending on your budget and locality where it is established. Choose between a luxury hotel or a budget boutique hotel. You may choose a hotel close to the market or any preferred area which is safer as per the reviews. Some prefer staying close to the airport if they have a short business trip.

Book transfers in advance

You can check with your hotel with which you have made a reservation as many hotels arrange transfers from the airport to the hotel and vice-versa. Some offer complimentary transfers and some will be chargeable.

If you not have booked one, then find out the registered and reputed cab companies and use only those. If you are sharing your ride with someone through an app like Uber, reconfirm the vehicle information before boarding the cab and driver details shared on the app.

Pre-Plan activities

Planning activities in advance is essential for a smooth trip. But vacations do not always go as per plans. There are tourist activities that open for a limited period in a year like rafting. So it is better to search in advance and then go. You can go through the blog posts to explore new and interesting places and things to do. You can research the adventure activities available at your hotel like adventure camps set up by the hotel.

Go through some itineraries and also check Tripadvisor for some quick advice on tourist attractions. Make a list of museums, malls, restaurants, historical places, etc.

Travel Insurance

Invest in travel insurance as accidents may happen anywhere and you must be covered. There are a lot of uncertainties while traveling. In case of unforeseen situations, it can help you to cover the loss and also makes you safe against travel-related emergencies.

Minimize travel risks

Taking vaccination is important if you travel to certain countries. Consult your doctor so that you can take vaccination to protect you from the disease. If you are traveling to South America/Asia, then vaccination of Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Typhoid Fever, Yellow Fever, Cholera and Diarrhea are the common ones that you need to take. Some vaccinations you may require more than once so we advise you to visit the doctor a couple of months ago.

Travel Rewards Credit Card

If you have saved money, then get yourself a travel credit card to sign-up bonuses in order to redeem miles and points for free hotel reservations and flights.

Packing tips

Start packing ahead of time to avoid the last-minute hassle. There are certain restrictions involved when you are traveling by air. You cannot keep sharp or pointy objects like scissors, screwdrivers in your handbag. We suggest you wrap in a cloth and carry in checked baggage. Contact customer care for an update of the policy. Sometimes they are not allowed at all and maybe thrown away at the airport. You are not allowed to carry any inflammable liquids with you.

Your medicines should always be packed in cabin baggage. Your chargers and prescriptions if any should also be in cabin baggage. Batteries/lithium icon cells for portable electronic devices should always be removed and kept in checked baggage. Protect the batteries individually to prevent short circuits.

Carrying liquids also comes with restrictions. You need to carry them in checked baggage and secondary, you can carry limited quantity. For the US and UK, rules are different. Read the restrictions on the carrier’s website. We recommend you carry sample-sized travel packs for carrying your body lotions and cream. Perfume also needs to be in the checked baggage. Instead of carrying the whole perfume bottle, use a refillable fragrance atomizer that is quite compact to carry. Place all the liquids in a separate and clear bag to avoid any hassles during the security check at the airport.

Carry your accessories in a separate pouch and you can keep that in carry-on baggage. It is advisable to carry a scarf as you may feel cold in the plane as sometimes the temperature is not comfortable.

The baggage has weight restrictions as well. The same information is there on the baggage tab of airline websites. When you are done packing, always weigh the suitcases and bags.

We hope these tips will ease out the brainstorming phase and you will step confidently in your destination. Hope you will now have fun planning for your next trip!
